Hi im currently doing a 16 hour fast eg lunch at midday and dinner before 8pm, am I ok to have coffes and the occasional nuts in between times?
Thanks
Hi Shayne, great question! Short answer is that it's ok to have black coffee (or herbal tea, or water with Himalayan rock salt) and you will still get most of the benefits of TRF. We'll ask Sean, our Lead Nutritionist, to get more detail for you when all questions have come through.
Hey Shayne, great question. The black coffee or herbal tea is okay outside your eating window. You will still get majority of the benefits, however any kind of food or drink that has substance to it (i.e. it is digestible and will stimulate the digestive system) will reset your body's internal clocks and negates your TRF benefits. So the nuts or snacks are a no go!
Hi Shayne Good question. From my understanding - you are OK to have the coffee but ideally not the nuts. If you do have the nuts then your gut won't get the rest that is at the heart of TRF. The true benefits come from TRF when your gut gets a complete rest for the 16 hours of the fast. Another idea to to chose a fasting period that you can manage, perhaps 14 hours? You could still get some benefits from a slightly shorter period.
How long before you go to sleep should your last meal be?
Hey Ange, the general rule is that your eating window should finish 2 hours before bed. Thanks for the question & let us know if you have any more :)
Just confirming that a TRF window should finish 2 or even 3 hours before bed. This is so the processes of digestion do not interfere with your sleep quality.
